Back packing in forest County

Well, here i go again…. This weekend (02-19-10)  I will be back packing into the Allegheny national forest, and staying the weekend.
I’m looking forward to spending the night under the stars, in the snow. There will be pictures as soon as, early next week, posted here on the site. I really don’t know what makes me want to sleep outside in the snow with nothing but what fits into my pack. Sometimes i think its the peaceful feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, know one else around. Sometimes its just the idea of challenging myself and pushing my limits to there fullest. All I know is there is nothing like it, waking up in the morning surrounded by a forest full of snow, getting the fire going and making fresh Cowboy coffee, and breakfast, caveman style. Can you see me now, its so easy a caveman could do it….lol. You may be interested in doing something like this, but first…… I would recommend trying trips into the forest in other seasons. Start with Preparation, there is a lot you should no. From what to bring, to what to expect. The first thing you will want to do is go when the weather is better for you, this way you can live and learn, so to speak. Learn from each trip, and learn to adapt to each situation. Forest County, Pennsylvania Trout Fishing

Well, Trout Season is upon us, and I’d like to take a moment to share a thought or two. If your planning on Fishing for trout in Forest County, I would Recommend trying The Salmon Creek. Its just a short drive from Marienville but well worth the drive. This Creek has parts that seem to be “un-tamed”, where the water flows around large rocks and holds fish year round. I’ve caught some Really nice Brooders in this creek. Another best kept Secret of Forest County, would have to be Spring Creek. Although Spring Creek also runs through Elk County, where it dumps into the Clarion River. But once again, parts of this Creek run thru the wilds and un-tamed forest. And yet again, it holds Trout Year round. Well known is the Blue jay. But what a fun little twisting, winding stream this is. If you’ve never fished it, its a must. One of my Favorite streams is “The Branch” located near Kelletville. but not to far from Marienville. The Branch is a small stream that is for the most part is shaded by tree cover. The Branch dumps into the Salmon about a half mile from where the Salmon dumps into the Tionesta Creek.

And After a hard day of fishing, before returning to camp. Check out the Kelly Hotel for some awesome food and Drinks. I Stopped here for the first time in 2007. And I’ll tell you what. The food is Great. They have a sit down restaurant and a Bar to sit and tell stories of the one that got away.

All these Streams and Many others, Are close enough together, you could hit them all in a day. Or spend all day on one. Either way I’m sure They will be worth your time.

 

Forest County, Marienville Pennsylvania Trout Stocking Pictures 2009

Friday April 10th 2009 I helped stock 4200 Brown and Brook trout in Streams around Marienville, Pennsylvania. These fish looked really nice and healthy compared to some from years past. I witnessed several Rather large fish throughout the day being put in the streams. I also visited The Marienville rod and gun club to see there hatchery. The Rod and Gun club was very active in the stocking of these fish. They used there own vehicles and homemade live wells to transport fish to areas the large state trucks would never be able to go. I took pictures of this event and would like to share them. I’ve included pictures of some Turkeys that crossed the road in front of me on the way to Spring Creek. The outdoors can be a great getaway from life. I Think everyone should try to get out and see what the outdoors has to offer.

Back packing in Pennsylvania

Back packing to the extreme. Myself and some friends choose spots from topographical maps. we choose the most remote locations. Its a great way to just get away from life in general. Usually we go with 2 or 3 people but heck going on your own is a blast also here are some pictures for you to check out.
